Terrific stuff to base my game on as I move forward and remember your not good enough to be that annoyed! Instead, he approaches golf from a player's perspective, with a singular goal: To help you play better golf the next time you tee it up. The predicament was that I kept telling myself, “I’m a great iron player, but I just struggle off the tee and on the greens. This is no different than someone trying to establish a fitness routine – the moments you feel tired and lazy are the actual test. You will have to take a much deeper dive into your game to figure out what is holding you back and what habits you need to change to get there.

You can finally get all the methods he’s used to become a scratch golfer and coach other players in one complete guide - The Four Foundations of Golf. I have a solid short game and I can putt with the best of them…and it’s enough to let me love the game more than ever. The Four Foundations will teach you how to be your own coach, and not waste time on methods that don't work. As a long time golfer I found this book to be one of the best guides I have read to inform and set more realistic goals for my game.Jon provides bits of advice on key aspects of the game that he has received and tried out throughout his golf journey. I believe The Four Foundations is the most comprehensive and practical guide on how to improve your golf game and increase your enjoyment. The provided stats, advice, and even crucial training drills provide a clear path to not only get better but enjoy this awesome game we are all gladly addicted to!

Also, anyone who follows Jon on social media will find a lot the same things discussed there covered again in the book. The focus on how to improve your game without offering swing advice is an approach that can help a lot of players who are caught in an unending cycle of terrible quick tips from golf magazines and youtube instruction. Jon makes it clear that trying one "5 minutes to cure your slice" tip after another will not lead to lasting improvement. I would go out to play with a devastating combination – lack of preparation and unrealistic expectations. Not started applying loads of this yet but even just reflecting on the chapter about grit really helped me after a couple of tough/disappointing sessions at the range.

A psychologist who wrote a wonderful book entitled Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, Angela Duckworth, defines grit as “perseverance and passion for long-term goals. In my quest to become a better tournament player, it became apparent by watching other golfers and benchmarking my performance that these were also problems that needed to be solved. I’ve been recommending this book to anyone who has ever picked up a golf club, whether they’re a 30 handicap or a 2 handicap. It’s a commitment to yourself that you will not give up and stay mentally engaged no matter what happens.

It probably works best as the video version Sherman references, middle as a print book with all the references available, and third as an audio.
